Dear Ash Mount Community,
It has been a wonderful week at Ash Mount. Today was especially exciting as we received the scale model of our school. We have been working from drawings and digital plans for months, but seeing the design come to life in 3D is something completely different — it looks even more incredible in person.
We are keeping the model in our office at South View School, and families are very welcome to pop in, have a look, and show their children what their future school will look like. If you’d like to visit, simply book an appointment through Brooke in Admissions, and we will be delighted to share it with you.
How do we help children reflect and connect learning to the real world?
This week, our Every Child. Every Voice. series focuses on reflection – an essential habit for deep, meaningful learning. Reflection is how children make sense of what they have learned, recognise their progress, and think about what comes next. When children reflect, they grow in confidence, self-awareness, and purpose.
Reflection is not just looking back; it is also looking forward. It teaches children to:
- notice what they understand
- recognise where they want to grow
- link ideas across subjects
- apply their learning in new situations
- understand their place in the wider world
At Ash Mount, reflection will be woven into everyday learning. In an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary curriculum, children need to understand how they learn, not just what they learn. They will use questioning, journalling, discussion, and self-assessment to explore their thinking and connect ideas.
Growing up in Dubai gives children rich opportunities to make these real-world connections. From sustainability at Expo City to the cultural heritage of the UAE, from innovation hubs to nature reserves, the city itself becomes a living classroom. When learning links to the world around them, children develop curiosity, compassion, and courage, qualities that will serve them far beyond school.
Families can support this at home through gentle daily conversations:
- “What did you learn today that surprised you?”
- “How might you use this in real life?”
- “What did you find tricky, and what helped you keep going?”
These small reflections help children understand themselves as learners and build the confidence to lead their own growth.
Eid Al Etihad Wishes
As we come to the end of November, we want to wish you and your families a wonderful Eid Al Etihad weekend. This is a special moment for the UAE, a time to celebrate unity, heritage, and the remarkable progress of this nation.
We send our warmest wishes to the country and its people, and we cannot wait to celebrate together next year when the nation turns 55 as we prepare to open Ash Mount School.
Best wishes,
Abigail Fishbourne
